Art Mentoring
Sanya Shah, a sophomore year student from Bridgewater, NJ reached out to BASIC to help her identify Volunteering efforts in her community when her summer camps got cancelled from COVID. BASIC helped her formulate a structured Art Camp for 10 weeks where she designed her own curriculum. She had the kids explore many facets of traditional art and exposed them to new mediums and materials. Her students applied the techniques they learnt with Sanya, to create some of the very interesting art projects. The different topics covered included Linear Perspectives, Drawing from Reality, Positive and Negative Space, Drawing Portraits, and Color Theory. She clocked 560 volunteering hours as a result of this initiative.

Juvenile Detention Center Literary Program
Nearly 350,000 youth are detained in the United States each year. More than half of these are adjudicated as delinquent, and nearly 90,000 are placed in residential facilities. Access to educational resources is of special importance for such young people during confinement. The average cost to confine a juvenile is $88,000 per year – and a recent study showed that about 55 percent of youth were re-arrested within twelve months of release. Research has shown that literacy is one of the biggest predictors of whether or not a young person will return to the juvenile justice system once they are released. Without books, life for such juveniles is reduced to boredom and their blank stares at the walls only make matters worse.
Till date BASIC has fundraised for over 300 books to be donated to juvenile centers on the east coast. If you would like to donate, please click here Fundraiser by Kunal Bagga : Juvenile Detention Book Drive (gofundme.com)

Love Uganda Foundation
The Love Uganda Foundation cares for dozens of orphans outside of the city of Kampala. Usually, the organization raises money by offering safaris to foreign tourists, but in the wake of COVID, this avenue became no longer available. Dozens of children are in need of basic school supplies, food, and medical products. Even though some of these young people are facing challenges including struggles with poverty, HIV, and abusive family backgrounds, they are determined to build a brighter future for themselves, and with your help, I know they will be able to do so.
BASIC has fundraised over $1400 to support Ugandan orphanages. The funds were used to set up a computer lab for the class, enabling classes by Skype. If you would like to donate, please click here Fundraiser by Ansh Modani : Empowering Ugandan Orphans (gofundme.com)
